Home wrecking and mending

Our home is slowly coming together. And I mean S-L-O-W-L-Y. These are pics of our living room, the furniture actually belongs to Casey's brother, we are "storing" it for him for an indefinite amount of time or until we buy our own furniture. It's not really a priority at this time. The walls were originally peach (yes peach) and the ceiling was cigarette smoke yellow with soda stains. The previous owners smoked inside the house and it looks like opened a shaken can of soda that spewed all over the ceiling and then decided it added homey ambience and never cleaned it. We painted the wood trim and ceiling "Anthem White" and the walls "Carribean Walk" AKA eggshell or cream. Who comes up with these names? I should have their job.

What you do not see is a small section of the wall that we are using for paint sampling. I am leaning toward a very pale, pale blue or a light kaki color.

There are still lots of odds and ends to take care of in this room, like finding funky outlet and switch coverings, curtains, a new wrought iron fireplace curtain (the brass just has to go), molding around the panel wall and painting the brick, etc. Our main goal at this point was to just get the place livable. The three bedrooms and hallway are painted the same way right now.

Both the kitchen and bathroom will require RENOVATION so those two projects will take a number of years and possibly a home improvement loan to tackle, but in the meantime everything functions and I am enjoying researching all the possibilities and creative touches. I am thinking kind of big in the kitchen...like adding a dining room addition (currently there is not a formal dining room, only one great room that doubles as living and dining space).

We originally were going to tackle the bathroom next month, but have decided to use our funds for wedding and honeymoon stuff instead, so the bathroom will drag out through next year...the good news is we are going to go ahead and splurge on buying a brand new toilet and vanity in the meantime. I never would have thought I could be so excited about a new toilet...or that there are so many toilets out there to choose from. Our home is small, but cozy, with a great big wooded back and front yard. Later, in the spring, after I do some more landscaping and gardening I'll post some pictures of the deck and yards. I think we'll probably be in this house for at least 10 years or so before we consider moving into something bigger. We really love our small subdivision and all the mature trees.

I love the house. I can't wait to see it in person. Tom said we need to start planning our family vacation for next year. Maybe we can come visit you.

Thanks sis! Its hard sometimes, especially when we visit our friends or family with newer, bigger homes that have all the modern amentities, etc. Everything looks so nice and clean and new and then I come home to my little fixer-upper and feel overwhelmed with all the projects and things to do. LOL..Just going to your house is like a grand vacation for us...there's all the exrtra space and the soft cumfy carpet and big moder kitchen....awwwww. Casey loves your office, but we have a while before we can work on our office.

The house looks fantastic. I love how homey and lived-in feel/vibe it gives off. I second Marie...Boo to urban sprawl, it bites.
