It was a great learning activity. We discussed interesting CO facts, studied the letters and sounds of the word "Colorado", looked at color patterns while making our chain, and more importantly practiced cleaning as we go, before moving on to another activity. Since being home with Gavin, organization has become a bigger challenge than before, but we are making progress.
Hi, we're The Morrisons. I've been using this blog to keep in touch with my family and friends ever since leaving our native Texas in 2007 for the mountains of Southern Appalachia. In 2012 we moved back to Texas, because that's what Texans tend to do. Thanks for visiting our blog. We like to hear from you, so leave a kind comment or two!

Counting Down To Colorado
We recently decided to spend our Fourth of July in southern Colorado. We will be visiting our dear friends and adventuring in the mountains. To commemorate our upcoming trip, Gavin and I made a paper chain.

Story time
My MIL has a photo of a toddler Casey reading a story to his infant brother Tyler. I thought she might appreciate a similar moment between Gavin and Sawyer.

Sleeping Babes
Gavin asked me to lay down with him at bedtime. I was nursing Sawyer at the time and told him I would have to bring baby brother with me. Gavin said that would be fine. I nursed the baby and sang lullabies and ran my fingers through the hair of my first born.
Despite our troubles transitioning to a family of four and more time at home, at the end of the day, Gavin still wants his mommy to lay down beside him and lull him into slumber. I cling to these moments as tightly as Gavin still clings to his blankey.
As I rolled away from Sawyer just long enough to capture this moment, he stretched and growled the way he does. I scooped him up just as he winced and began to cry.
It's not very often he starts his night in his own crib, but after more nursing and rocking in the glider I managed to make a successful transition from mommy's chest to his crib.
Progress.

Creative Writing Project
Gavin and I started a new project during last week's learning time - a creative writing activity.
He tells me the story, making it up as he goes. I write it down, prompting him with questions to help develop the plot, etc. he writes the page numbers and we take turns drawing and coloring the illustrations. Hopefully as we progress with this project he will do some of the writing as well. This has been great for practicing our handwriting and phonics.
We're hosting a few friends this week during Spring Break and will return to this project later.
