Hi, we're The Morrisons. I've been using this blog to keep in touch with my family and friends ever since leaving our native Texas in 2007 for the mountains of Southern Appalachia. In 2012 we moved back to Texas, because that's what Texans tend to do. Thanks for visiting our blog. We like to hear from you, so leave a kind comment or two!

A year late!
Almost a year later, finally some medical data that supports the suspicions I brought up with four OB/Gyns, one family physcian, five nurses and four nurse-midwives during my pregnancy. That's 14 medical professionals in a seven-month time period. When I first found out I was pregnant with Gavin, I explained to the initial OB/Gyn that both my grandmother and mother and even possibly my great grandmother gave birth prematurely and that I felt like maybe I had a genetic predisposition. Not ONE medical professional took my concerns seriously, instead they each said the same thing. "Your perfectly healthy and your pregnancy is going great. There isn't enough evidence that supports a genetic predisposition for prematurity." It was frustrating to not be taken seriously and even more frustrating when true to my inclination I gave birth to my son more than two months early, making me the third known generation of women in my family to go into preterm labor. Only now that I have a "history" of preterm labor am I considered "at risk." I am really interested to see what comes of these new studies.

I feel like medical professionals are not being kept up to date with this kind of stuff. If you were to show this article to your ob, I bet he/she would have no idea that studies were being done on this or what they found out.
Same with pediatricians, they have no idea on the latest studies with car seat safety. Most pedi's continue to tell you that it is time to turn your one year old forward facing or that it's time to put your 4 year old in a booster while in fact, neither of those are true.
my dermatologist has prescribed me 3 different antibiotics now because nothing is preventing me from getting these cysts on my face and she has no idea why. i'm like come on! i'm about to go get a second opinion because she is frustrating me.
ugh, it is frustrating, i'm just happy baby G is doing so well. thanks for sharing!
I had no idea Gavin was so early..the is an interesting article! I agree. Frustrating. Completely.
Fascinating and frustrating to feel like no one truly *listens*.
I hate how Docs just shoo your worries off like you have no idea WHAT you're talking about or no clue about YOUR family history. That article was interesting.
I hope this get circulated.
