First Birthday and Well-Baby

Gavin's future is so bright, he's gotta wear shades. Thanks Aunt Courtney for the super cute sunglasses!

Below are a few pictures taken by some of our birthday party guests. We have some photos on our camera too, but I haven't had time to download them. Will post any jewels from our camera later. Gavin had his 12-month well-baby appointment this morning. Some things to remember about one-year-old Gavin are: he is 25 lbs., in the 60th percentile, and overall the picture of perfect baby health. Thank you God. We are in the process of weaning G-Mann off the bottle and baby formula. He does very well with a variety of sippy cups. I am still sad that I wasn't able to breastfeed as I had intended, but I think I make up for it with homemade baby food. I like knowing what is going into his body. To be clear, I don't make all his food. I'm no super mom, like other moms I know. I usually work in fits and spurts. We keep the jar stuff around just in case I run out of time to put something else together.

Generally I prepare fresh fruit and veggies, not always organic, but at least its fresh. I ran across a baby hummus recipe that I would like to try, for dipping finger foods in. Gavin is experimenting with more and more table food. He wears size 3 shoes, size 3 diapers, 12-18-month old clothes and has four teeth.

We had awesome weather and about 20-25 party guests, including both sets of grandparents and a total of five children under the age of four, including Gavin. In addition to the traditional party spread, e.g., chips/dip, fruit and veggies, our menu included smoked brisket, sausage wraps and hot dogs. My personal highlight was that the birthday cake was a success. It was a double layer vanilla cake, both cakes brushed with lemon syrup, a rasberry-lemon filling and buttercream frosting.
I made it from scratch using a friend of mine's recipe, thanks Susan! It took two attempts. The first batch of cake was an utter failure. I think I forgot to add the baking powder. Talk about a major brain fart.

Today is mine and Casey's two-year wedding anniversary. It feels like 10 years! Is that a good thing or bad thing? If we can make it through these past two years, we can make it through anything! Happy Anniversary, babe.

Somewhere I think I still have the thank you card. And when will you teach Gavin how to do the "guns up?"
