We were rained in, pretty much the entire 3-day weekend. On Saturday the power went out while we were in the middle of preparing dinner. I had ground beef and beans on the stove! Thank goodness for camp gear, between the head lamps and MSR whisperlite stove we were able to finish cooking. Then we had a romantic candlelight chalupa dinner! Aren't chalupas the first thing that comes to mind when you think of candlelight dinners? Excuse the tupperware. I have already packed a lot of our dishes. We're down to just the essentials.

On Sunday we went down south to my inlaws' house for some quality time and to pick up all the moving boxes my MIL had stored in her attic. Gavin did manage to get about half an hour of swimming in before it started raining again and we had a great lunch before heading home for the evening. We spent the rest of the evening packing, organizing and keeping Gavin entertained.
On Monday, when the rain was the worst and the ground was completely saturated we decided to take Gavin to Chuck E. Cheese. Bless his heart he just couldn't be stuck inside anymore. Talk about cabin fever. "Outside, mommy? Mama, outside!" The day before we had talked about going to the baseball fields, but all the fields are under water. At one point Gavin went out and played golf in the rain. We allowed this until it started thundering and lightning. He didn't understand why he had to come inside. We searched for a jump house, but didn't find any so Chuck E. Cheese it was! CEC was a blast. It was Gavin's first time. We had the same idea as a lot of parents with active kids who needed to run around. It was packed and the entry way to the restaurant was crowded with umbrellas. Gavin and I played a round of air hockey. I was surprised that he understood what he was supposed to do and was actually pretty good at it, until he lost interest half way through the game. He rode on a few rides and played a game of ski ball, but mostly he really enjoyed playing basketball. He also enjoyed watching the big puppets sing and dance and would dance along with the music. He does a lot of hopping when he dances. He liked his pizza and his new soccer cup.

I just read the news about the fires in TX, east of Austin and a few in San Antonio too. It is weighing heavily on my mind. Anyhow, enjoy a few photos from our very wet, but fun family weekend. Happy Labor Day to all the hard working folks out there!
