During our drives home we often talk about elementary school and what kind of changes he should expect, for example losing the baby blanket and nap time.
Gavin still loves his mommy and daddy and insists that we color with him, play ball with him (these days we are playing lacrosse), read him bedtime stories, and tuck him in at night. Some days I am utterly exhausted and really have to remind myself that these are the days that his childhood memories are made of and I need to play with him even when my body just wants me to sleep. He's the best snuggler, but once he's asleep he becomes a major bed hog and whether he is in our bed or we are in his bed somebody returns to their own bed.
He is becoming quite the conversationalist. It's been great to observe his developing language skills. He is finally able to carry on phone conversations with his grandparents.
This year Gavin learned to snap, something he is very proud of. We can add snapping to his rhythm repertoire. In addition to snapping, this boy loves to dance. It makes me so happy to see this. I hope he can maintain that sense of freedom and confidence and always dance like no one is watching. There's a lucky little girl out there in the world right now, she just doesn't know how lucky she is yet.
He also attended his first big-screen movie in a theater this summer. It was a mother-and-son affair one Sunday afternoon. I took him to see Epic. He did great and is excited about future trips to the movie theater. His grandparents in San Antonio love going to the movies and I know they are looking forward to adding their youngest grandchild to their movie brood. Gavin will be excited when he gets to accompany his older cousins to movies too.
Gavin is loved, happy, healthy, learning, and spirited - we couldn't be more proud.
