Fourth of July in Tennessee

The week of the Fourth is always Gavin's summer break. Last year it snuck up on us and we had to scramble at the last minute to cover the whole week. Casey and I both took time off work and my mom and nephew came up from San Antonio to spend the rest of the week with Gavin. It was a great week, but we decided then that we would plan ahead for the following year.

This year Casey, Gavin, and both our dogs took to the road and ventured east to Casey's parents house in TN. It would be the first time any of us have visited TN since we left at the beginning of last year. I was not able to take the entire week off of work, but I was fortunate enough to fly out after work on Wednesday and drive back with my boys on Saturday.

Much of the southeast was drenched and it rained every day. Needless to say this did not bode well for fancy fireworks. Despite the rain, which was actually a nice break for us from the TX heat and drought, we had a great time and made wonderful memories.

Our trips to California and Tennessee wiped us out for any long distance travelling this year, but we are excited about enjoying the remainder of the summer close to home and hopefully doing some camping once the temperatures start to drop in the fall. Gavin's rock climbing and second soccer season begins next month.

In other Morrison July news, while my vegetable garden has taken a turn for the worse - more on that later - One of our hens finally started laying. We get one new egg everyday. The hen started laying sometime after I left for TN. What a fun treat to come home to! Farm fresh eggs are here to stay and we are excited.
