Summer Reading Program

The local library system hosts a summer reading program for youth and adults. The kids can decide how many books to read, maintain a reading log, and note whether or not they liked the book. Obviously the younger preschool and Kinder age kids get a lot of help from their parents. Nevertheless, this was a great activity for us. Gavin learned how to  behave in a library, take care of library books, and most importantly enjoy the library. Gavin was issued his own library card and met our neighborhood branch children's librarian. We used the library to checkout books, DVDs, and audiobooks for our spring and summer road trips.

At the conclusion of the reading program, Gavin was able to choose a book to keep. He chose an Avengers beginner reader book. I'm looking forward to this program next summer and to continue fostering a love of literacy and community.
