Positive thinking

So today I finally went to the dentist, after 2 years. Yes, after 2 years. Now that I am settled somewhere I am ready to begin a positive working relationship with a dentist. I had such a positive dental experience growing up. I had the same dentist from the time I sprouted teeth into early adulthood. Then he retired. Right about the same time I graduate college, started bouncing around from here to there and got kicked off my parents insurance, which meant occasionally not having any insurance until I got the job thing down. Consistent dental hygene wasn't exactly at the top of my priorities.

Well, the last time I had my teeth cleaned was in 2006 and the main reason I made that appointment was to get a nightguard for my teeth clenching/grinding issues.

I was a bit embarassed to admit to my new dentist that it had been 2 years since my last cleaning, but them felt much better after he examined me and found zero cavities.

Then he started asking about this grinding teeth issue. "So, are you a Type A personality", he asked. Somewhat hesitantly I said, "mmmmm sometimes." He chuckled, "welcome to the club." Apparently the frequent ulcers and jaw clenching gave me away. Of course this conversation always leads to "what's going on in my life that could trigger these behaviors." So I told him the major move out of TX to TN, living with my in laws for 8 months, buying my first home, planning a wedding, on top of the actual marriage part. All of these things, any other doctor would call "major life changing events that would induce stress". I like my new dentist because instead of stating the obvious he said, "Your cup runneth over."

And I thought to myself, "ain't that the truth."
