It was great to finally see my parents. It was the first time I have seen them since we found out Casey knocked me up. There was lots of hugging and more squealing...and of course some breakfast tacos and enchiladas. My mom picked me up from the airport and we spent a few hours of quality time together. The waiter at the Mexican-food restaurant we ate at predicts that I will have a girl. The best part about the Mexican-food restaurants in San Antonio, probably most of Texas, are the homemade tortillas. Oh My Goodness I miss homemade tortillas.
I am a sorry excuse for a half breed because I don't practice my Tex-Mex food cooking and tortilla making near enough as I should. But I hope this changes when I bring my little Texican into the world. He or she will have to know his/her Texican roots! That means we'll have to have Tex-Mex night, at least once a week, when we eat Tex-Mex food and practice our Spanish.
The main reason I was in San Antonio was not for my parents and the breakfast tacos. It was for my friend Kim's big 3-0 birthday. We started planning this trip about 6 months ago and I have been looking forward to it. The theme was 30 going on 13. What better way to celebrate than with a New Kids on the Block concert and puffy paint??
This was our "Hang'n tough" pose. Initally we anticipated a night of silliness and satire. We ended up squealing and giggling like 13 year old girls. Truly. The NKOTB concert was surprisingly very well done. Lots of choreographed dancing and performance. It was kind of like going to a musical or something, just in terms of how well it was executed and planned. The boyz were very cute, even as 40 year olds. Not bad at all. Joey and Jordan are very talented singers and it was great to watch them perform. I was impressed. There was no lip synching at all. And Joey even did a little Dancing with the Stars-type number to show off his new dance moves. Donnie was cool, but he grabbed his man parts more than I really liked. Danny did some breakdancing and Jonathan as usual was just in the background.
We were also not the only group of ladies cheesin' it up. There were lots of puffy paint t-shirt gangs, some even had the crimped hair and leggings to go with it. We had so much fun! We lost our voices.
The two acts prior to the New Kids were so-so, but mostly just really loud. It made me feel old and reminded me of why I prefer outdoor concert venues. Overall a good time was had by all...and that was just Friday night.

Thanks to the other Tiffany for posting her pics early. I copied these from her Facebook account. I will post my pics sometime later this week.
On Saturday we had breakfast at our friend's house in New Braunfels. She and her husband recently built a beautiful home and her hospitality was much appreciated. Thanks Aryn for the cinnamon rolls and comfy beds!! After breakfast we headed to San Marcos for some outlet shopping, where I was very thoughtful about my small and portable purchases since my one piece of luggage would only fit so much and my carry on was already full. It was a beautiful day and when we left at 3:00 we were hungry, so where did we go??
The Gristmill!!! Where I had the best wurst sausage ever ;) In all my years living in San Antonio, going to Gruene Hall and floating the river, I had never been to the Gristmill. It was a long overdue experience. The sausage made me sad that I would be missing Wurstfest :( I love Wurstfest. Even if I couldn't drink the beer this year I could go for some sausage, bread pudding and fried pickles for sure. When the kid gets here we'll have to schedule a San Antonio trip around Wurstfest.

After lunch we headed across the way to the Gruene Market Days...which was awesome. I walked away with a couple of gifts and of course sad that we missed the Greune Music and Wine Festival just a few weekends prior. So many things to do and see down there.
By this time we were all exhausted from our shopping and dining and headed back to the house for some napping. Talk about getting old. We're more like 30 going on 60 than 30 going on 13. We need our naps and comfortable chairs.
Saturday night we had dinner at Huisache...yum. Wow, the best shrimp and green onion cakes ever. Did I mention the chocolate cake with bourbon sauce and vanilla ice cream. Sunday morning was spent with my parents, the fetus had it's first bean and cheese and chorizo and egg breakfast taco. I even had a cup of decaff coffee. My first cup of coffee since finding out I was pregnant. We went home and took another nap before heading to the airport where I bid everyone adieu. I did some homework on the 4-hour flight to Charlotte and napped again on the way to the Knoxville.

So that was my uber quick weekend trip to the homeland. I am hoping to make another one, with a few more vacation days, sometime after the new year. I can already smell the fresh tortillas....
