Pachanga Latino Music Festival 2012

Gavin and I have found festival friends in Milo and his mom Jessi. Back in March we two mommies with our tiny monkeys/boys adventured into SXSW, strollers and all! This weekend we hit the East side of Austin for a Saturday afternoon in Fiesta Garden Park. Pachanga Fest is great for the kiddies. Between the Nino Pachanga tent, wallet-friendly edibles, and lively Latino music both mommies and small fries had a blast. Gavin gets to add David Garza to his live music experience, which is pretty awesome. We are looking forward to next year's Pachanga.

David Garza playing for the kids and teaching them a little about songwriting.
Face painting. Milo got a snake and Gavin asked for a baseball.Surprise, surprise.
Enjoying their spoils after participating in the cupcake walk.
 Cupcake walk.
 Enjoying their pinata loot.
 Cool kid.
 Our festival friends.
Raspas and live music...doesn't really get any better.

Earlier that day, Casey, Gavin and I headed downtown for the Farmers' Market and bought a few essentials for our Mother's Day supper on Sunday. One of the vendors was giving away a free artichoke flower for all the mamas out there. I gathered a few other plants and wildflowers from my backyard and neighborhood to make a flower arrangement for my mom and dad's visit. Casey grilled steaks and bacon wrapped shrimp and I used veggies from the market to make roasted potatoes and onions, spicy sprout salad, slow cooked green beans with onion and bacon, and a peach and blackberry cobbler. My dad said my cobbler reminded him of the blackberry cobbler his grandmother used to bake in East Texas. That made me feel good. I think part of what makes a great meal is the positive emotion and memories that it can conjure. Pre-dinner snacks included a cheese and fruit plate (brie, chipotle gouda, grapes and apples), artichoke and spicy brown mustard deviled eggs, and chips and salsa. All in all we had lots of local-ish ingredients and a nice day with my parents. Gavin showed off his swimming pool moves and wore everyone out with his nonstop energy. My mom helped with the dishes. The only thing missing was  Casey's parents! Perhaps one day we'll all live close to each other and can enjoy big Sunday family suppers.
