I just can't decide if I am happy or sad about this milestone. It's the beginning of the very end of Gavin's baby years. I remember when he was cutting his first couple of teeth during his first Christmas. He was such a grumpy baby on Christmas morning. Now he's a skinny little six year old. He's still grumpy at times, but the baby that we met in March 2009 is hardly recognizable now.
After several days of unsuccesful convincing to let us pull his tooth out for him, which was just barely hanging on, Gavin finally conceded to our neighbor and good friend, Fernando. Whew! At first Gavin considered saving this tooth and starting a collection of lost teeth, before giving his teeth to the tooth fairy. His reasoning was that if she only left a small prize for one tooth that she might be inspired to leave a much more larger prize for a collection of teeth.
In the end, Gavin's curiosity and anticipation got the best of him and he decided to go ahead and leave his first tooth for the tooth fairy. He was very excited. He doesn't know it yet, but the tooth fairy has already visited and she left him $1 for his perfect tiny tooth.
It was a big day today. We miss our baby, but love the energetic little boy he has grown into.
