Home Sick

Gavin is home sick today (and yesterday). The worst is over, thank goodness, but he is not 24-hour fever free until later this evening, so he had to stay home an extra day.

It rained hard last night so the backyard is very muddy and Gavin's not quite well enough for bike riding. He gets worn out quickly.

I suggested painting. He liked this idea, said it had been a while since one of our mother/son paint projects. Which is true, it's been a while.

He helped organize all our supplies and then he came up with the project concept all in his own.

"Let's paint a bird, mommy. A blue jay! No wait, I mean a red jay, I mean a cardinal! Because blue jays are the bully bird and cardinals are nice."

I am so proud of Gavin. His art skills have really come a long way. A year ago, when we started these projects, I helped come up with an idea and I did most of the sketching. Then he would fill in the colors with my guidance.

Today, he came up with the idea, did the entire sketch, painted the bird and half the sky all on his own. He told me what I should paint, the sky and the nest. Then he decided we needed to take a break.

Well done!
